The U.S. Commerce Department will begin releasing official statistics and economic data on blockchain networks, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick announced. This initiative fulfills a proposal from earlier this year and aligns with a January 2025 executive order from the TRUMP administration promoting digital asset innovation.

"We're putting our GDP on the blockchain," Lutnick stated, framing the MOVE as both a transparency measure and an endorsement of blockchain infrastructure. The system will allow public verification of government spending data while creating new use cases for distributed ledger technology.

The decision continues an unfinished project from the previous administration that sought to track federal expenditures via blockchain. Market observers note this institutional adoption could drive utility demand for base-layer protocols capable of handling large-scale data verification.
